The COPO Chevrolet Camaro is the most exclusive muscle car of the year with less than 70 examples leaving the production facility. The hand-crafted model carries all the sportiness that drivers love, along with custom paintjobs sourced from the buyers themselves. This year, 29 of 69 COPO Camaros will be Hot Wheels edition models.
The limited COPO Camaro features an engine that generates enough power to launch the muscle car an entire quarter mile in just 8.6 seconds. That kind of power doesn’t come unchecked though.
“It is fast,” said Curt Collins, Chevrolet Performance, COPO, and Performance Parts Licensing manager. “In fact, the National Hot Rod Association requires them to have a parachute for safety. But the car will not leave the factory until they’re ready to go race.”
Hopeful buyers will have to put their names into a random drawing and hope they’re one of the lucky few. Around 16,000 people enter for the chance to buy a COPO Camaro every year.
The COPO Camaro is entirely handcrafted by 20 people. Each car takes about 15 days to build. It weighs 100 lb less than a typical Camaro thanks to the removal of some unnecessary brackets and braces. Customers can get the paint color they want.
The Hot Wheels edition model offers more exclusivity. The model comes with Hot Wheels badging on the fenders and steering wheel, graphics on the rear quarter panel, and “Hot Wheels” emblazoned on the door sill.
If you happen to be one of the lucky few to get your hands on a COPO Chevrolet Camaro, make sure to come to Copeland Chevrolet to show it off!
