Truck Maintenance Tips: Preparing for Summer Months

Truck Maintenance - Brockton, MA

Service your truck before you head out on a long road trip this summer. While pickup trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado are long-lasting, perform regular maintenance on them is a must. Here are a few truck maintenance tips that everyone should follow, most of which you can do yourself.

Check your tire pressure

According to Idle Smart, one of the most important tips for the summer is to check your tire pressure. When the outside temperature increases, it changes the pressure within your tires. And, over- or under-inflated tires can be dangerous as well as inefficient. If you plan on hauling anything in your truck, your truck is especially vulnerable to blowouts.

Maintain your batteries

While cold weather can kill batteries, they’re actually more likely to fail in summer heat. This is because hot weather can speed up the chemical processes within the battery, creating added corrosion and lowering energy output. Do a visual inspection to make sure no wires are loose, and remove any corrosion — just be sure to be careful.

Inspect your air conditioning

It’s also a good idea to check your air conditioning before taking a long trip. Check the hoses and valves for any leaks, and, if necessary, you may also need to recharge the A/C system. Many auto shops have do-it-yourself kits, but, if you’re not confident you can do it properly, take your truck to a professional to recharge the A/C unit.

Look at your engine bolts

Be sure to check you engine belts as well. You can do a simple visual inspection by looking for cracks and other signs of wear and tear, and you can also test the tension. If your belt squeaks and squeals, it may need grease.

Chevrolet Vehicle Locate Feature Debuts in myChevrolet App

Chevy Vehicle Finder - Brockton, MA

Chevrolet has debuted a convenient new feature in the myChevrolet mobile app called Vehicle Locate, which lets Chevy owners send automated text alerts to a designated person or group of people when their vehicle gets to or leaves a certain address or boundary area.

The Vehicle Locate feature was designed to keep drivers safer and give their loved ones peace of mind. Whether you’re going on a blind date and want to send alerts on your whereabouts or you’re lending your car to a friend and want to keep tabs on its location, Vehicle Locate can help.

Parents especially can get added comfort with this feature. Teens can be forgetful about sending updates to their parents, but with Chevrolet Vehicle Locate, their smartphone can automatically notify their parents when they arrive at school, work, a friend’s house — you name it.

The app can notify up to 10 people for every pre-programmed address or boundary of up to a 20-mile radius the user wants to send alerts for, but don’t worry — you won’t be getting any unwanted messages. You have to agree to receive the notifications.

The feature also keeps track of the vehicle’s location at all times, so drivers can easily navigate to where their car or truck is in crowded parking lots or at meters on city side streets. Never get lost looking for your car again.

But what about locating your dream vehicle at a dealership? That’s where we come in. At Copeland Chevrolet, our friendly and expertly trained staff will help you find the car that fits your needs perfectly.

Holiday decorations

We’re proud to sponsor a range of local events and organizations, including the Jingle Bell Run and Project Guardian Angels. These events are designed to give back to the community during the holiday season, helping to raise money for non-profit groups in our community to assist families with food, fuel, and more.

Enterprise News has helpful resources for learning more about the Project Guardian Angels, which is a volunteer- and donation-based effort to gather toys and Thanksgiving dinners to children in need and the elderly. Rosie Vasquez-Brown is a local police officer who helped to start the group, which our dealership helps to sponsor.

We’re also proud to sponsor the 2018 Jingle Bell Run, a two-mile fun run that’s welcome to all. The money from the run goes to the Helping Hands Fund, and the event with be Saturday, December 1 at 1 PM. Registration starts at 12 PM, and it will be hosted at Brockton High School

At the fun run, you can fund a free hot buffet lunch, prizes for costumes, and raffles.
