The Chevrolet Equinox was already an SUV designed to make family life a bit more convenient, but its newest iteration is set to raise the game once again. That’s because, according to a report by GM Authority’s Jonathan Lopez, the 2022 model will boast wireless Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®.
If you’re not familiar with Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™, they’re technologies that allow you to mirror select smartphone applications from your compatible smartphone to your vehicle’s infotainment display. Until just recently, you needed to use a cord to attach your device to the screen. When wireless capabilities became feasible, several automakers decided to charge a premium for the feature. As usual, Chevy decided to take a different approach.
Lopez states that both services will be offered “as standard equipment across all trim levels.” He goes on to say that you’ll be able to access it via the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system, which will come aboard a standard 7-inch touch-screen display on the LS, LT, and RS trim levels, or an 8-inch screen on the Premier model. You can also upgrade to that larger display on the LT and RS trims.
Innovation isn’t universal, but decisions like including wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto® in every 2022 Equinox prove that Chevrolet’s bread and butter is pushing the envelope.
