A few years ago, General Motors announced a plan to add more electrified vehicles to its lineup. Part of that plan includes advancing battery technology to be more efficient and versatile. In a recent article in New Roads Magazine, GM’s chief sustainability officer, Kristen Siemen, gave us a glimpse into what this new battery technology has to offer.
Building Chevrolet’s electric future is a new modular system called the Ultium Platform. While not used in the Bolt EV, it will be used as the base of the upcoming all-electric Silverado along with the Equinox EV and Blazer EV.
“We’re completely focused on Ultium and focused on bringing battery cost down to improve performance to please customers, and offer more affordable EVs,” Siemen said in the interview.
While the Bolt EV and EUV may not have the Ultium platform, the 2022 Bolt EUV does come standard with a Dual Level Charge Cord. This gives Bolt owners the choice between charging with a standard three-prong outlet or upgrading to a 240-volt outlet for faster Level 2 charging.
To make electric vehicles more accessible, GM is offering a charging upgrade program for some customers who buy or lease a 2022 Bolt EUV or Bolt EV. With this program, GM will pay for the installation of a Level 2 charging station at the customer’s home
